A Sleek, Corrosion-Resistant Drainage Solution For Patios, Paths & Thresholds
The Corten Steel Threshold Drainage Channel System is a slimline surface water drainage system, ideal for eliminating pooling near doorways, patios, walkways, and non-trafficked areas. Designed for domestic installations, it includes a 1m channel, corner piece, and T-piece - all constructed from robust extruded PVC with a distinctive Corten steel heel guard grating.
Practical surface water control with architectural appeal
This system combines discreet functionality with industrial-style aesthetics. The narrow 65mm width sits flush to surfaces and connects easily to standard underground drainage systems, while the Corten grating develops a weathered patina over time that protects the steel and enhances visual appeal.
- Slim 65mm profile – ideal for thresholds, patios, and paved areas
- Grating develops a natural patina that resists corrosion and adds character
- Quick to install with optional 50mm or 80mm outlet
- Removable heel guard grating for easy cleaning and access
- Compliant with BS EN 1433:2002 Load Class A15 and Building Regulations Part M

Installation Guidance
1. Planning and Preparation
Determine layout and whether a side or bottom outlet is needed. Cut the trench approx. 15 cm deep and 10 cm wide.
2. Outlet Options
-
Side outlet: integrated in the end cap (Ø50 mm)
-
Bottom outlet: requires drilling a Ø45 mm hole in the channel base (max 6m channel per bottom outlet or 5m per side outlet)
3. Installation Steps
- Apply stabilised sand (1:3 cement:sand mix) in trench to create base
- Fit outlet connectors and position channels with end caps in place
- Adjust channels to final level and embed using sand/cement backfill
- Ensure grating remains fitted during install to maintain form
- Cut channels to size if required; file ends smooth
- Use PVC adhesive to seal plastic joints for a watertight connection
Tip: Leave channels 3–5mm below adjacent paving level to avoid surface staining from Corten patina.

FAQs
Is the Corten grating rusted when it arrives?
No. It starts dark grey/black and weathers over time when exposed to moisture, forming its protective patina.
Can this system be used with block paving?
Yes, provided the paving is non-trafficked. The channel is designed for patios, paths, and domestic thresholds.
How do I connect the drain to underground pipework?
Use either the 50mm side outlet or 80mm bottom outlet. A siphon is recommended for connections to foul water systems.
What’s the flow rate capacity?
Up to 360 litres per metre (L/m), depending on outlet configuration and install conditions.
Can I cut the channel to size?
Yes, the PVC base and steel grating can be sawn to your required length. Smooth edges after cutting.
